why should kids learn architecture?
għaliex it-tfal għandhom jitgħallmu l-arkitettura? *
Making architectural-learning accessible to children allows them to:
- Freely experiment in creating shapes, forms and spaces
- Experiment with new crafts, materials and media to represent real-life ideas
- Learn how to problem-solve and think critically
- Learn how to understand humans & society empathetically and from a spatial point of view
- Learn how to consider real-life scenarios
- Reflect on the spaces and neighbourhoods around them and think about how they can be improved.
* This course/workshop is not intended to help children fulfill careers as architects in the future, but rather focuses on building skills which would translate in other areas of their life; primarily teaching them to face challenges by thinking critically, creatively, humanistically and by thinking from different points of view.
For a great idea of how beneficial architecture for children can be, check out Architecture for Children in Sofia (Bulgaria).
